Well first thing was first... we needed to get the days press releases out.
....
Fine food, fine wine and breath taking atmosphere
Day two of 2007 CORROBOREE – THE AMERICAS
With a successful first day to Corroboree 2007 done and dusted now all anticipation is aimed towards the highlight of the three-day event the What’s Cooking Down Under? Aussie Food and Wine Night, which is being held tonight at Hunter Valley Gardens.
The Hunters finest food and wine providers are preparing to dazzle the American tourists with everything the Hunter Valley has to offer. Fine food, fine wine and breath taking atmosphere, the Hunter is the cream of the crop when it comes to the perfect destination for the American “Aussie Specialist” travel agents.
Whats Cooking Down Under? Aussie Food and Wine Night will be held at the breath taking Hunter Valley Gardens where the “Aussie Specialists” will be tantalizing their taste buds with best food and wine the Hunter has to offer.
Wines from Hunter Wineries such as Tamburlanie, Tower Estate, McGuigan Cellars and Allandale Winery will be on display to complement the fine foods of Il Cacciatore, Chez Pok, and The Mill Restaurant to name a few.
And while the entire theme of Corroboree 2007 is What’s Cooking Down Under? the Aussie Food and Wine Night will also give something back to the Hunter and will recognize Corroboree as a carbon-neutral event with the planting of one of the most threatened plants on Earth- the Wollemi Pine.
The Aussie Specialists will spend the day experiencing Australia. With everything from vegemite and billy tea for breakfast at the Crowne Plaza Hunter Valley through to a picnic lunch by the pond on the first tea of Hunter Valley Golf and Country Club’s championship course. As the day progresses they will have the opportunity to view and experience Australian products and services as sellers and agents get the chance to mingle and attend exhibitions at the Corroboree 2007 marketplace. This will promote Australian products to an international audience and will benefit the Australian tourism industry for years to come.
But by far the feature of not only the day but also the entire event will be the experience presented to the Aussie Specialists at Hunter Valley Gardens this evening.

Corroboree Kicked off
Well Corroboree kicked off with a bang on the 12/09/07 and the first day was huge.
With the agents arriving to Branxton station at 2.30pm there was heaps of organising to do. Most of the staff with including myself put in 17-20hr days in preparation.
The arrival went well and the media pitch that we sent out about their arrival at Branxton Station got a lot of attention. NBN news where there to broadcast the event as well as 3-5 local and statewide paper. The next day saw a loat of attention in the press.
The Welcome Cocktail party was extravagant and was very well received by the Americans. The hot air balloon and the synchronized swimmers were a big hit!
I was there until 11pm setting the Exhibition centre for the next days marketplace.
Here is the pitch that I wrote for the media....
Tourism Australia’s Corroboree – The Americas 2007 officially kicks off tomorrow, with 165 American agents arriving in the Hunter Valley to sample and see the best that Australia and the Hunter Valley has to offer as a tourist destination.
As 230 people including not only the American travel agents but also sponsors and sellers at the event will be greeted Aussie-style by a welcoming crowd of locals, the Town Crier, and the melodic sounds of the Valentine School Band.
Also as a special feature John Drayton from Drayton Wines will be there with his 1927 T Ford Model Vintage Automobile. Previously owned by his father and one the first to be owned in the Hunter Region, this will add to the Australian Country feel of the arrival at Branxton.
Using Branxton Station as the arrival point for the American agents signifies that they are no longer lost in the big city, but rather a part of the close-knit comfort of a country community.
The three-day Corroboree convention, which is being held at The Crowne Plaza Hunter Valley, is dedicated to educating and training retail agents who are committed to marketing and selling Australia as a vacation destination to American consumers. The event will add $1million to the local economy and will expand the regions market and contribute to its international reach.

Corroboree- The America’s Information Session
Corroboree is a convention dedicated to the education and training of ‘Aussie Specialists’, retail agents committed to marketing and selling Australia as a vacation destination to American Consumers.
It is an opportunity to educate, train, motivate, and facilitate awareness, through a touch and feel experience, giving agents the confidence and understanding of what Australia has to offer and to assist them in selling Australia as a tourist destination.
Corroboree’s program of marketplace appointments, workshops, networking events – and yes, food & wine - really is a recipe for business success.’
Corroboree 2007 will see around 360 tourism professionals in The Hunter Valley and to add a special touch to the event this year the Hunter Valley is providing individualized ‘Showcase experiences’ where the Aussie Specialists are invited to attend an experience of their choice in the Hunter Region.
This includes experiences such as Horse and Carriage Winery Tour, Modern Australian Cooking School, Wine and Food Matching, Beer Tasting and Food Tour, Golf Clinic with Golf Professional, Gardens and Galleries, Hunter Hotel Trail, Aboriginal Caves Experience, History Boutiques and Antiques, Morpeth & Maitland Jail Tour.
From fine wines and gourmet food to luxury accommodation and stunning scenery, this three day event will certainly show that the Hunter Valley offers a true taste of the good life, in one of the oldest wine –growing areas in Australia.
According to Tourism Australia:
‘We’re heading to the famed Hunter Valley this September to 'taste test' more ways Australia satisfies the appetites of even the most demanding client’.
The event will take place over three days – Wednesday 12th September to Friday 15th September and while Tourism Australia were expecting attendance to be around or under 150, the confirmed numbers came back at 165 ‘Aussie Specialist’ agents, which more then exceeded expectations.
Information Session
Hunter Tourism had an information session held at Hunter Valley Gardens on Wednesday 28th August for some of the local business involved in Corroboree 07.
The information session was quite successful and gave Hunter Tourism the opportunity to find out what the local public were thinking and where they had concerns.
It also gave us an idea of what we have missed and what we hadnt quite considered or planned for.
I drafted an information sheet to be given to all attendee's of the session and was there to set-up, answer questions and pack down after it was over.
